A friend of mine asked me this morning why I was writing this Dodge blog. The answer may be more complex than what I had originally planned. Initially, I thought it might be a good idea to have an informational site with an owner that had no agenda. When I was in the market for a truck in ‘98, I would have loved to have seen a site from a Dodge owner who wasn’t connected to Dodge or a dealer and only wanted to share his experiences with the vehicle. Someone who would give me the good-bad-and ugly about the truck. That was my original aim and remains a big part of what I’m doing today. However, things are evolving and I’m starting to see a broader purpose for this blog. An an example, a person asked a question the other day about a Dodge security remote. I didn’t have a clue, but someone posted an answer to that question. That incident doesn’t mean that I plan to launch a Dodge community of owners, develop forums and bother people with emails… but it does encourage me to expand the scope of my monologue.

If you have a question or a problem with your Dodge and want to see if any of our readers have an answer or a suggestion, post a comment. My goal is to keep everyting relevant and hopefully help a few people who have the same questions I once had about buying a Dodge. So, jump in and add your two-cents… it just might save someone else some big bucks!

My husband and I are looking at buying a new truck and we’re torn between the Ford and the Dodge. I like the Ford and my husband likes the Dodge. Obviously, you like the Dodge more than a Ford, but what makes this a better truck in your opinion? Why don’t you like Fords?

Fords are great if you’re over 60. Fords are grandpa cars, chevys are for women who listen to country music. A Dodge is for men who have work to do. I have a ‘02 Ram with a gas-guzzlin v8 and it rocks!

We have a 2002 Dodge RAm Diesel pickup with a manual 6 speed transmission. Recently the clutch failed and had to be replaced. The cost was almost $2000. It seems that 40,000 miles is a little soon to have this kind of problem. Are we just unlucky or have others had the same problem?

    • Mark Says:

All clutch life depends on the operator and that is usually the problem. Ive been in truck repair for over 30 years and 90 percent of the time when a clutch goes its because of abuse or not knowing how to keep your foot off of the clutch pedal when going down the road.

Bill, I’ve taken a stab at answering your question and posted it so that others might comment, go here: http://dodge.wordpress.com/2006/08/03/clutching-at-straws/

I have a 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab that I trully enjoy but I am having a problem with the A/C system. The problem started with the fan motor NOT coming on. I could wiggle the key a little and it would come on but now nothing I do will make it come on. The system itself shows to be on and when I travel down the road with the window slightly open the air that is pushed through the system is cold coming out of the vents. It will not do this in the Max position. But I cannot turn the system off and the fan motor will not come on. I can’t figure out if it is the A/C switch or the fan motor. Does anyone out there have the same problem or suggestions?
I know of one other Dodge owner that has a 2004 with the exact same problem. If this is not an isolated incident I feel that Dodge should address the problem with a recall or something. This should not happen with a 3 year old Dodge.

I have an 04 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab that I love. Its black with the chrome package and has the SRT 10 hood on it with the Mopar chrome grille inserts. The only thing left that is throwing off the look of the truck is the ugly bug deflector that came with the truck when I bought it. Id really like to take it off, but the screws that are mounting it are set in plastic anchors that I have not found a way to free them from (access to these anchors is very limited). Is there any way for me to take this bug deflector off without grinding the screws out of the deflector?

    I have a ‘98 Dodge Ram3500. Cummins 24v w/5 speed stick.
It has 160k miles so it did not come as a surprise that it needed a new clutch. I took it to a local shop that does reputable work. Instead of one day they encountered a problem with the slave cylinder and it took three days. The problem was the new cylinder was supposed to self bleed and they could not get it to do this. Finally they jacked the truck up severly on one end and this allowed it to fill correctly. Now I have the truck but the pedal seems a bit low off the floor to engage the clutch. The old clutch was at the top of the throw to engage the new one is right off the floor. Any comments would be appreciated.

Does anyone know who or how to complain to Dodge about a dealership that gives CRAPPY service, CRAPPY advice and to top it off, after I told them NOT to drive my truck while it was in for service, and I was waiting at the dealership, some little punk takes it out for a spin for 10 minutes! Says he had to check the temperature gauge! BS! I tried to 800 number posted for Customer Service on dodge.com, but get nowhere. Would like to complain to a district zone type office, but don’t know how to find one. HELP!

I have a 03 dodge 3500, it sets too high in the rear.
My question is will it hurt any thing to take out the two blocks between the springs and axle. The purpose for lowering the truck is to have enough clearance when pulling gosseneck horse trailer.
